Wondering what to wear in Korea in fall? You’ve picked one of the best seasons to visit South Korea—but packing for autumn can be tricky. September can still feel surprisingly warm, October brings crisp fall weather, and by November, you’ll definitely want sweaters and a proper jacket.
I lived in South Korea for nearly six years, so I’ve experienced everything from humid September afternoons to chilly November nights. The biggest lesson? Layers are your best friend.
In this guide, I’ll show you exactly what to wear in Korea during September, October, and November, along with Korea autumn weather, packing essentials, comfortable shoes, and outfit ideas based on what I actually wore while living there.

What Should You Wear in Korea in Fall?
For autumn in Korea, pack lightweight clothing for September, layers and light jackets for October, and sweaters with a warmer coat for November. Comfortable walking shoes are essential throughout the season, and layering is especially important because daytime and nighttime temperatures can vary considerably.
As a general rule:
September: T-shirts, dresses, skirts, lightweight pants, and a light cardigan
October: Sweaters, jeans, tights, cardigans, leather or denim jackets, and ankle boots
November: Warm sweaters, trousers, thicker jackets or coats, scarves, and closed-toe shoes
You don’t need to pack your entire closet either. Korea has fantastic shopping, so leaving a little extra room in your suitcase isn’t a bad idea.
If you’re planning on visiting Korea in another season, I have a complete South Korea packing list for summer, winter, spring, and autumn.
What Is Autumn Weather Like in Korea?
Autumn in South Korea generally lasts from September through November, but the weather changes dramatically throughout the season.
September often feels more like late summer, especially during the first half of the month. October brings the classic crisp, comfortable fall weather most travelers picture when planning an autumn trip to Korea. By November, temperatures drop significantly, and mornings and evenings can feel quite cold.
Weather also varies depending on where you’re traveling. Seoul and northern South Korea generally cool down earlier, while southern cities like Busan stay warmer later into the season. Jeju Island also tends to have milder autumn temperatures.
Because temperatures can change quickly throughout the day, packing clothes you can layer is more practical than relying on a single heavy outfit.
| Month | What It Feels Like | What To Pack |
| September | Warm days, cooler evenings | T-shirts, dresses, shorts, lightweight pants, cardigan |
| October | Mild days, crisp mornings and nights | Sweaters, jeans, tights, light jacket |
| November | Cool to cold | Warm sweaters, coat, scarf, closed-toe shoes |
Korea Fall Clothing Essentials
Wondering what to wear in fall in Korea? Below are some of my favorite staple pieces I wore during fall in South Korea.
What you pack will depend heavily on whether you’re visiting in September, October, or November. Someone visiting Seoul on September 10 will need a very different suitcase from someone arriving on November 20.
This packing list will help you know what to bring for the weather conditions (especially during October).
- American Eagle Curvy Skinny Jeans – I basically live in high-waisted skinny jeans all autumn. These work great with riding boots or combat boots.
- Biker Jacket – A leather jacket is one of my favorite lightweight layers for autumn in Korea. You can dress it up or down, and it goes with almost anything in your wardrobe.
- Trench Coats – Having one of these coats is one of my best tips! You can dress it up or down.
- Midi Skirts – I recommend these skirts for cooler days and more coverage.
- Long-sleeved shirts – These are a staple to go under spaghetti-strap dresses.
- Denim Jackets – Get ones with pockets for versatility!
- Comfortable Sneakers – The streets of Seoul don’t always have the best paving. You need a good pair of walking shoes.
- Combat Boots – These are my all time favorite shoes during autumn. They can be layered with additional socks and look amazing with skinny jeans.
- Sweater Dress – If you plan on going out to dinner at night or you just like to be flirty or girly, then you should definitely have a few dresses like this in your wardrobe
- Sheertex Rip Resistant Tights – If you have a fur baby like I do, these are a godsend. Trust me, these are HARD to destroy and totally worth the investment.
- Warm Scarf – The weather gets a bit chilly in Korea at night in Autumn. I always keep my long scarf in my bag for those nights.
- Fedora Hat – This hat automatically makes your outfit cuter and doubles in keeping you warm.
How To Dress For Fall in Korea
I hate I even have to give this warning, but as your internet big sister, I do need to address some important facts based on my experience. In Korea, the sense of modesty is different.
This means you can wear your shorts, mini skirts, and dresses as short as you want. I promise no one will bat an eye. You will be stared at if you dare to expose your chest or shoulders.
Unfortunately, we still live in a world where many men are predators to women. I have been groped in public and grabbed by lecherous old men because I wore what made me feel confident and beautiful.
As foreigners we are considered “curvier” and our clothes make us appear “too sexy.” A general rule of thumb is if you do choose to wear anything with thin straps and cleavage, wear long-sleeved t-shirts under.
Also, just because you come to Korea does not mean you have to give up dressing in what makes you feel comfortable. From what I’ve observed from Korean autumn fashion trends consist of nude, black, or grey colors.
What To Wear in Korea in September?
September in Korea is technically the beginning of autumn, but don’t expect sweater weather the second September arrives. Early September can still be hot and humid, particularly during the daytime.
As the month progresses, temperatures gradually become more comfortable and evenings start to cool down. This transitional weather makes lightweight layers especially useful.
September Weather in Korea
Temperatures range from 25°C to 26°C (77°F to 80°F) during the day. September is a great month to visit Korea if you don’t like cold weather because the crowds thin out and most people return to school and work.
What to Pack for Korea in September
For September, I recommend packing mostly warm-weather clothing with a few lightweight layers for cooler evenings.
Think T-shirts, blouses, dresses, skirts, lightweight trousers, sneakers, and a cardigan or thin jacket. You probably won’t need heavy sweaters or a winter coat.
September Fall Fashion Korea Outfit Idea: Shorts + Flannel
Since autumn is one of my favorite times of year, I like my personal style to pay homage to my 90s kid roots. It’s a good time to have a flannel shirt because layering is essential during the autumn season in Seoul.
P.S. Despite being a ’90s kid, you will never catch me dead wearing a bucket hat. I honestly think they’re ugly as sin. 😂 You’ll still see plenty of them around Korea, though.

October Weather in Korea
October is my favorite month for autumn weather in Korea. The intense summer heat is usually gone, humidity drops, and the days become much more comfortable for sightseeing.
Early October can still be fairly mild during the afternoon, while late October brings noticeably cooler mornings and evenings. If you’re visiting during the second half of the month, you’ll want layers you can easily add and remove throughout the day.
Daytime temperatures range from 18°C (64°F). October weather in Korea brings cooler nights, and temperatures can drop as low as 7°C (45°F). Weather conditions toward the end of October start to get colder.
What to Pack for Korea in October
October is prime layering weather. Pack jeans or trousers, long-sleeve tops, sweaters, cardigans, tights, and a lightweight jacket.
A denim jacket, leather jacket, trench coat, or similar midweight outer layer works well for much of the month. Comfortable sneakers are still perfect for sightseeing, although ankle boots are also practical once temperatures cool down.
October in Korea Outfit Idea: Dress + Turtleneck + Jacket
Wondering what to wear in October in Korea? This is by all means my favorite outfit I have ever worn.
The orange dress was one I found at H&M. It’s a bit sheer so I wear nude biker shorts underneath.
I paired it with a light white long sleeved turtleneck. In addition, I have my wide brim fedora hat and brown jacket.
The reason I did this is because the sun really makes it warm during the day. However, during early morning hours and when the sun starts to set, it does get chilly and the layers serve for keeping me warm instead of sweat wicking.

Fall in Korea Outfit Idea: Leather Jacket + White Shirt + Jean Shorts
This next look is a classic look models wear. It’s staple and looks great on everyone. Plus, it never goes out of style
It’s easy to put together and super comfortable. Here I’m wearing basics like sheertex tights (those things are hard to destroy), a white t-shirt, cuffed shorts, and my favorite Levi’s motorcycle jacket.
I paired it with edgier makeup and voila! Put together in less than 30 minutes.

Fall in Korea Outfit Idea: Oversized Sweater Dress + Tights
Sweater dresses are a fall fashion staple. Here I’m rocking the limited-edition H&M Empire Strikes Back hoodie.
I’ve scoured the internet for something similar. You could always go for this oversized Star Wars hoodie, pair it with your favorite buttery soft biker shorts, and a pair of your comfiest combat boots.
In the carousel below, you’ll find bodycon sweater dresses which would also make a killer autumn outfit of the day!

Fall in Korea Outfit Idea: Mini Skirt + Black Sweater
For me, fall means wearing dark colors like blacks and reds. This is the best time of year to be edgy with your fashion and go really bold.
This outfit consists of basic pieces: a black long-sleeved top, a red mini skirt, black sheer tights, and high-heeled lace-up booties.

Fall in Korea Outfit Idea: Red Dress + Booties
Since I’m not sweating profusely by the end of October, I love to wear long-sleeved dresses. Deep reds really accentuate the fall colors in South Korea.
I love this dress because it is so effortlessly beautiful. I also paired it with a fedora wide brim wool hat to keep my head warm when the sun sets.

Fall in Korea Outfit Idea: Animal Prints + Basics
Animal prints for fall fashion in 2026 are still in. Technically, they never went out of style. See how I’m using basics to really make my leopard-print skirt pop?
As you can see my favorite staples are making an appearance such as my black booties, black turtleneck and my wide brim fedora hat. Seriously, they go with anything.

Fall in Korea Outfit Idea: Black Jeans + Red Top + Conductor Hat
Since it was hard for me to buy clothes in Korea, I used whatever I had in my closet to put together outfits and stay on top of trends. Mostly, I relied on basics and statement pieces.
The best way I dressed for fall was in light layers, with a warmer, lighter jacket on top. I hate carrying around heavy things, so my outfits had to be versatile.
In this outfit, I’m wearing black booties, black skinny jeans, a red lace top, and a train conductor hat.

November in Korea
November is when autumn in Korea starts getting legitimately chilly. Early November can still offer beautiful fall weather, but temperatures continue dropping throughout the month, particularly at night.
If you’re visiting toward the end of November, pack for cold weather rather than assuming you’ll experience the same mild temperatures travelers get in October.
November Weather in Korea
The temperature usually averages at about 10°C (50°F) during the day. Bring your warm jacket at night because the temperature gets down to -1°C (30°F). November is a great time to visit Korea because you’ll be able to catch the last of the fall foliage in Korea.
What To Pack For Korea in November
Bring sweaters, jeans or trousers, closed-toe shoes, and a warmer jacket or coat. A scarf is useful for colder mornings and evenings, especially if you’ll be outside for long periods.
If you get cold easily, thermal layers can also be useful later in November. You don’t necessarily need full Korean-winter survival gear yet, but this is definitely no longer sundress weather.
November Fall Fashion Korea Outfit Idea: Trench Coat + All Black
It starts to get colder during the day, so right now I mostly wear black and jackets over my clothes. It’s perfectly acceptable to wear black and nude colors in Korea.
In this photo, I’m wearing my train conductor hat, black skinny jeans, a black turtleneck, and a red trench coat.

November Fall Fashion Korea Outfit Idea: Embroidered Skirt + Black Sweater
Korean women dress femininely, and that rubbed off on me too. In the photo, I’m wearing an embroidered skirt and a black sweater.
Just a reminder about modesty in Korea: it is okay to wear super short skirts. Because I have a larger bum, I always buy longer skirts that end up looking shorter on me anyway.
The best advice I can give for packing for Korea in the fall is to pack your basics and add bold statement pieces that don’t take up much room in your luggage.

November Fall Fashion Korea Outfit: Red Sweater + Black Skinny Jeans
Skinny jeans will always be a fall staple of mine. You can dress them up or down and they make for a myriad of different outfits.
I’m usually pretty cold in November in Korea, so I make sure I have all my warm scarves and hats. This outfit is a simple one consisting of black skinny jeans, a red turtleneck, a scarf, and a simple, warm hat.

Best Shoes For Autumn in Korea
Comfortable shoes are one of the most important things you can pack for South Korea. You’ll probably walk considerably more than you expect between subway stations, neighborhoods, palaces, markets, cafes, and attractions.
Sneakers are my first choice for sightseeing in September and October. Comfortable ankle boots also work well later in the season, especially if you want something slightly dressier.
If you’re planning to hike for fall foliage, bring proper walking or hiking shoes rather than trying to conquer a Korean mountain in cute fashion boots. Your feet will thank you.
What to Wear in Korea Without Looking Like a Tourist
First: you don’t need to completely change your personal style just because you’re traveling to South Korea.
Korean fashion tends to change quickly, especially in Seoul, and you’ll see everything from minimalist outfits to streetwear and highly feminine styles. Rather than trying to perfectly imitate Korean fashion, I recommend packing clothes you already feel confident wearing and incorporating a few seasonal trends if you enjoy fashion.
You’ll also be doing a lot of walking, so practicality matters. Looking adorable stops being fun very quickly when your shoes are destroying your feet halfway through Hongdae.
What NOT to Pack for Korea in Fall
A huge winter coat in September or October: You’ll probably regret hauling it around.
Only summer clothing: Even if September is warm, evenings can cool down.
Only one heavy layer: Several lighter layers are much easier to adjust as temperatures change.
Uncomfortable shoes: Korea is not the vacation for breaking in painful new boots.
An overflowing suitcase: Seoul is an incredible shopping city. Give yourself some room for whatever mysteriously follows you home from Olive Young, underground shopping malls, and Korean clothing stores.
